Time Duration Arithmetic
Sum or subtract HH:MM:SS durations with a running total and signed result for logs and payroll.
Add and subtract clock durations
Payroll adjustments, broadcast logs, and workout timers often list several
HH:MM:SS segments. Enter one duration per line, prefix with
- to subtract, and watch a running total plus the
final signed net duration. Hours are not capped at 23, multi-day totals stay in
hour:minute:second form.
Typical workflows
- Sum billed hours from a text export before invoicing.
- Combine FFmpeg chapter lengths or podcast segment durations.
- Net overtime minus break deductions on a single shift sheet.
For wall-clock elapsed time between two times of day, use Elapsed Time Calculator. For calendar date differences, try Find Date Difference.
Frequently Asked Questions
What format should each line use?
Use H:MM:SS or HH:MM:SS. Minutes and seconds
must be 0–59. An optional leading + or - sets
the sign; lines without a sign are added.
Can I mix days and hours?
Express multi-hour totals as hours beyond 24 (for example
27:15:00). The tool does not convert totals into days
automatically.
Does daylight saving time matter?
This is pure duration arithmetic on clock components, not calendar timestamps, so DST does not apply.
