Snowflake ID Generator

Create Twitter-style 64-bit Snowflake IDs with custom epoch, worker ID, and sequence bits, decode timestamps in the browser.

Generate and decode 64-bit Snowflake IDs

Snowflake IDs pack a millisecond timestamp, a worker (machine) identifier, and a per-millisecond sequence into one 64-bit integer. Twitter popularized the layout for distributed databases where auto-increment columns are impractical. This generator follows the common 41 + 10 + 12 bit split: 41 bits of time since a custom epoch, 10 bits for worker IDs (0–1023), and 12 bits of sequence (0–4095).

Set a custom epoch (defaults to 2010-11-04T01:42:00.000Z), choose worker and starting sequence values, and generate up to 1,000 decimal IDs. Paste any ID into the decoder to recover UTC time, worker, and sequence using the same epoch. All math runs locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these IDs compatible with every Snowflake deployment?

Layout and epoch must match your producer. This tool uses the classic 41/10/12 bit pattern with a configurable epoch; some services use different bit widths or datacenter IDs.

Why do consecutive IDs share the same timestamp?

IDs generated in one batch use the current clock once and increment only the sequence field, which mirrors how real generators behave within the same millisecond.

Can I use Snowflake IDs as session secrets?

No. They are unique, sortable identifiers, not high-entropy authentication tokens.
