Base91 Converter
Convert text or binary payloads to basE91 and back with live validation in your browser.
Encode and decode basE91 in the browser
basE91 is a compact binary-to-text encoding that often beats Base64 on short payloads while staying URL-safe enough for many transport layers. Use the encode tab to turn UTF-8 text into basE91, or switch to decode to recover bytes as text or a hexadecimal dump.
For Bitcoin-style payloads, see the Base58 Decoder and Base64 Decode tools for related encodings.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is basE91 different from Base64?
basE91 packs bits into a 91-character alphabet and typically produces shorter strings than Base64 for the same binary data, at the cost of a larger alphabet and less universal tooling support.
Why would UTF-8 decoding fail?
basE91 often wraps arbitrary binary. If the decoded bytes are not valid UTF-8 text, switch the output format to hex bytes instead.
