How the Calculation Works
The calculator finds the difference in milliseconds between the two dates and converts it to days. When "Include end date" is checked, one extra day is added so that both the start and end dates count toward the total. For the breakdown, a month is approximated as 30.4375 days (the average month length across a year) and a year as 365.25 days (accounting for leap years).

How do I count the number of days between two dates?

What is the difference between counting with and without including the end date?

How many days are in a year?
A common year has 365 days, while a leap year has 366 days. Leap years occur every 4 years (with some exceptions for century years not divisible by 400). Our calculator uses 365.25 days as the average year length for the years breakdown.
How many days are in a month on average?
The average month has 30.4375 days. This is calculated by dividing 365.25 days (the average year length) by 12 months. Individual months vary from 28 to 31 days, so the breakdown provided is an approximation.
