Turn PDF copy into editable Markdown

Documentation teams often inherit PDFs when a product manual or report needs to move into GitHub, a static site, or a wiki. This converter reads the embedded text layer with pdf.js, groups lines in reading order, and applies lightweight Markdown rules: larger type becomes headings, bold and italic font names are wrapped, and bullet characters are normalized into list items.

What to expect

The export is best-effort. Multi-column layouts, tables, footnotes, and images are not reconstructed automatically. You get clean starting Markdown you can refine in any editor. A live preview shows how the syntax renders before you copy or download the .md file.

For a geometry-heavy dump (coordinates per text span), try PDF to JSON. For a simple plain-text pull without formatting, use PDF to Text.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are headings detected?

Lines whose font size is noticeably larger than the document body median are promoted to #, ##, or ### headings.

Are files uploaded to a server?

No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser.

Will scanned PDFs work?

Only if the scan includes an OCR text layer. Image-only pages produce empty output.

Can I hide the preview panel?

Yes. Use the output panel selector to show Markdown only, preview only, or both.

Is the Markdown GitHub compatible?

Yes. The output uses common Markdown syntax supported by GitHub, GitLab, and most static site generators.
