PDF to JSON
Export PDF text, metadata, and per-page structure as JSON in your browser. Inspect the parsed document locally and download the JSON file.
Export PDF Structure as JSON
Parse a PDF locally and download a JSON file with document metadata, page sizes, and every text item with coordinates. Developers use this for search indexing, analytics pipelines, chatbots that need citations, or debugging why a layout looks wrong.
JSON Shape
Each file includes fileName, pageCount, metadata (title, author, subject, creator, producer, dates), pages with width and height, and an items array of text, x, y, fontSize, and width values. An extractedAt ISO timestamp records when the export was built.
Good Fit / Poor Fit
- Good: machine-readable dumps, testing extraction scripts, counting text spans per page.
- Poor: scanned image PDFs without text layers, or documents that need perfect visual reproduction.
For thumbnails or social images, use PDF to Images. To inspect page counts before parsing, open the PDF Page Counter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the JSON pretty-printed?
Yes. The download uses two-space indentation so it is easy to read in an editor or diff tool.
Are font names included?
The export focuses on geometry and text strings. Font family names are not included in this version.
Can I import the JSON into Excel?
You can load it with any JSON tool. For tabular review, flatten the items arrays with a script or notebook.
Does OCR run on scans?
No. Only embedded text layers are read. Scanned pages without OCR text produce empty item lists.
Is my document uploaded?
No. Parsing uses pdf.js in the browser and the JSON is built on your device.
