About Month Counter Calculator
The Month Counter Calculator helps you count the number of months between two dates, or add or subtract months from any starting date. Whether you are tracking project timelines, calculating subscription periods, planning events, or determining loan durations, this tool provides instant and accurate month counting.
How to Use
The tool has two modes:
Count Months Between Dates
- Select Count months between dates mode.
- Enter the start date and end date using the month, day, and year selectors.
- The calculator instantly shows the total number of months and the total number of days between the two dates.
Add or Subtract Months
- Select Add/subtract months from date mode.
- Enter the start date and the number of months to add or subtract.
- The resulting date is displayed instantly.
How Month Counting Works
The calculator counts full calendar months between dates. If the end date has a lower day number than the start date (e.g., January 31 to February 28), the count adjusts to account for the incomplete month.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many months are between two dates?
To calculate months between two dates, count the full months from the start date to the end date. If the end day is earlier than the start day, the count excludes the final partial month. Our calculator handles this automatically.
How many months between January 1 and December 31 of the same year?
There are 11 full months between January 1 and December 31 of the same year. December 31 is the last day of the year, and since January 1 to December 1 is 11 months, then December 1 to December 31 is only days (not a full month).
How do I add months to a date?
Select the "Add/subtract months from date" mode, enter your starting date, choose "Add" as the operation, and enter the number of months. The calculator handles month-end rollover automatically. For example, adding 1 month to January 31 gives February 28 (or February 29 in a leap year).
How many months is 180 days?
180 days is approximately 5.9 months, or roughly 6 months. The exact number depends on the specific months involved since months have varying lengths (28 to 31 days).
How many months in a year?
There are 12 months in a year: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December.
