Thanksgiving Dinner Calorie Estimates

A full Thanksgiving plate can add up quickly when you count turkey, stuffing, sides, appetizers, and pie. This calculator totals calories from typical holiday dishes and estimates how long an activity would take to burn that amount. Plan portions with the Thanksgiving Calculator and Turkey Size Calculator.

How Calories Are Calculated

Each dish uses a standard serving calorie value. Multiply servings by that value and sum every dish you select. Turkey without skin is about 190 calories per serving. Stuffing is about 180. Pecan pie is about 450 per slice.

$$\text{total calories} = \sum (\text{servings} \times \text{calories per serving})$$

Exercise Time to Burn Calories

The tool uses MET values for activities like walking, running, football, and yoga. Calories burned per minute depend on your weight and the activity intensity.

$$\text{calories per minute} = \text{MET} \times \text{weight (kg)} \times 0.0175$$

$$\text{exercise minutes} = \frac{\text{total calories}}{\text{calories per minute}}$$

These numbers are rough estimates for planning, not medical advice. Actual burn varies with fitness, terrain, and pace.

Typical Plate Example

One serving each of turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potato casserole, green beans, cranberry sauce, cornbread, appetizers, and pie can total around 1,500 to 2,000 calories before seconds or drinks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories are in a typical Thanksgiving dinner?

Many full plates land between 1,500 and 2,500 calories depending on portions and whether you include appetizers and pie.

Which dish adds the most calories?

Pecan pie is usually the highest per serving at about 450 calories. Sweet potato casserole and appetizers also add significant calories.

How long would I need to walk to burn Thanksgiving calories?

Walking uses a MET of about 3.5. For a 165 lb person eating 2,000 calories, that is roughly 3 to 4 hours of walking.

Does turkey skin change the calorie count?

Yes. This tool uses skinless roasted turkey. Skin adds fat and calories per serving.

Can I enter half servings?

Yes. Servings accept decimals so you can model smaller portions or shared dishes.
