What is Conception?

Conception is the process of becoming pregnant, which involves both fertilization of the egg by sperm and implantation into the wall of the uterus. The date of conception is the day on which a baby is conceived. Because there are many factors surrounding conception, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact date, but this calculator provides an accurate estimate.

How to Use This Calculator

You can estimate your conception date using one of three methods:

• Due Date: Enter your estimated due date to calculate when conception likely occurred (approximately 266 days before the due date).
• Last Period: Enter the first day of your last menstrual period and your average cycle length to estimate ovulation and conception.
• Ultrasound: Enter the date and gestational age from an ultrasound for a more accurate estimate, especially in early pregnancy.

Understanding Your Fertile Window

Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for 3-5 days, while an egg is viable for about 24 hours after ovulation. This means the fertile window spans several days leading up to and including the day of ovulation. The calculator shows a range of possible conception dates based on these biological factors.

Pregnancy Timeline

A full-term pregnancy typically lasts about 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of the last menstrual period, or approximately 38 weeks (266 days) from conception. The calculator shows you your current gestational age in weeks and days, as well as which trimester you are in.
