Pakistan Income Tax Overview (FBR Rules)
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Pakistan calculates individual income tax based on annual taxable earnings and progressive tax slabs. Salaried individuals and non-salaried business individuals are taxed under separate tax rate schedules established in the annual federal budget.
FBR Income Tax Slabs for Salaried Individuals (Tax Year 2024–2025)
For salaried employees (where salary income exceeds 75% of total taxable income), the following FBR tax rates apply:
- Up to PKR 600,000: 0% (Tax-exempt)
- PKR 600,001 – 1,200,000: 5% of the amount exceeding PKR 600,000
- PKR 1,200,001 – 2,200,000: PKR 30,000 plus 15% of the amount exceeding PKR 1,200,000
- PKR 2,200,001 – 3,200,000: PKR 180,000 plus 25% of the amount exceeding PKR 2,200,000
- PKR 3,200,001 – 4,100,000: PKR 430,000 plus 30% of the amount exceeding PKR 3,200,000
- Above PKR 4,100,000: PKR 700,000 plus 35% of the amount exceeding PKR 4,100,000
Salaried vs Non-Salaried Taxpayers
Non-salaried taxpayers and sole proprietors are subject to higher marginal tax rates starting at 15% for income above PKR 600,000 and reaching up to 45% for annual earnings over PKR 5,600,000.
