MOA Calculator
Calculate Minute of Angle spread at distance, MOA from impact offset, and scope click corrections.
What Is MOA?
MOA (Minute of Angle) is an angular measure equal to 1/60 of a degree. Shooters use it to estimate bullet spread at distance and to dial scope corrections. At 100 yards, 1 MOA is roughly 1 inch of spread.
MOA Formulas
Exact spread at distance:
$$s = \frac{\pi \times \text{MOA} \times d}{10800}$$where \(s\) is spread in inches and \(d\) is distance in yards. Rearranging gives MOA from spread:
$$\text{MOA} = \frac{s \times 10800}{\pi \times d}$$Scope clicks equal the required MOA divided by the click value (e.g. 0.25 MOA per click). Related: Projectile Motion Calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is 1 MOA at 100 yards?
Exactly about 1.047 inches. The rule of thumb "1 inch per 100 yards" is a close approximation.
What is a scope click?
A click is one adjustment step on a scope turret. A 0.25 MOA/click scope moves point of impact 0.25 MOA per click.
MOA vs MIL?
1 MIL (milliradian) ≈ 3.438 MOA. MIL scopes use a different angular unit but serve the same purpose.
Can I use meters instead of yards?
Yes. Select meters for distance; the calculator converts internally using the exact arc-length formula.
Does MOA change with distance?
MOA is an angle and stays constant. The physical spread in inches grows linearly with distance.
