What Is the Humans vs Vampires Model?

This playful epidemic simulator models a world where vampires convert humans each day. Every vampire bites a fixed number of humans per day, each bite creates a new vampire, and the daily bite total is capped by the remaining human population. The result is exponential vampire growth and a race toward human extinction.

How the Simulation Works

Each simulation day follows three steps. First, count how many humans can be bitten: vampires multiplied by the bite rate, limited by humans still alive. Second, subtract those bites from the human count. Third, add the same number to the vampire count because every bitten human becomes a vampire.

If humans reach zero before the selected number of days, the tool reports the extinction day. Otherwise it shows how many humans remain after the chosen time window. Try the Dating Theory Calculator or Among Us Impostor Odds Calculator for more fun probability tools.

Why Infection Rate Matters

A higher bite rate accelerates the outbreak because each vampire converts more people daily. Even a small starting vampire population can overwhelm a large city when the bite rate is high enough. Lower rates give humans more time, but vampire numbers still compound quickly once the outbreak gains momentum.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the bite rate represent?

It is the average number of humans each vampire converts per day. A rate of 2 means every vampire creates two new vampires daily, as long as enough humans remain.

Can humans ever recover in this model?

No. The model only converts humans into vampires. There is no cure, birth rate, or human defense built into the simulation.

Why are bites capped by the human population?

Vampires cannot bite more people than still exist. Once humans are exhausted, the daily conversion stops even if the simulation continues counting days.

Is this based on real epidemiology?

It is a simplified thought experiment inspired by vampire fiction and basic exponential growth, not a medical disease model.

What happens if I start with zero vampires?

Nothing changes. With no vampires, no humans are converted and the human population stays the same for the entire simulation.
