8-Hour Shift End Time

Use this calculator to find when your shift ends based on a start time, shift length, and unpaid break duration. Break time is added after the paid work block, so an 8-hour shift with a 30-minute break ends 8 hours and 30 minutes after clock-in.

How It Works

Shift end = start time + shift length + break duration. Paid hours equal the shift length you enter. Overtime is any paid time above 8 hours in a single shift.

Example

Starting at 7:00 AM with an 8-hour shift and a 30-minute break means you finish at 3:30 PM. You are paid for 8 hours of work and spend 8 hours 30 minutes at the workplace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are breaks included in the 8-hour shift?

No. The 8 hours refer to paid work time. Unpaid breaks are added on top when calculating when you leave for the day.

How is overtime calculated?

Overtime equals paid shift hours minus 8. A 10-hour shift shows 2 hours of overtime; a standard 8-hour shift shows none.

Can I use this for shifts longer than 8 hours?

Yes. Change the shift length field to match your schedule. The calculator still uses 8 hours as the standard threshold for overtime.
