WWW Authenticate Parser

Split WWW-Authenticate and Authorization challenge headers into scheme and parameter tables.

O M T

Parse WWW-Authenticate challenge headers

When a client lacks credentials, servers respond with 401 Unauthorized and one or more WWW-Authenticate headers defined in RFC 7235. Each challenge names a scheme (Bearer, Basic, Digest, …) followed by semicolon-separated parameters such as realm, nonce, and qop.

Why parse instead of eyeballing?

Multiple challenges may arrive comma-separated, and parameter values can be quoted. This parser splits schemes and populates a table so you can wire OAuth resource servers, debug API gateways, or compare staging vs production challenges without manual copy errors.

To craft outbound Authorization headers, pair this with the Bearer Auth Header Builder or Basic Auth Generator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this validate signatures or nonces?

No. It only tokenizes header syntax. Cryptographic verification still belongs on the server.

Can I paste multiple header lines?

Yes. Paste several WWW-Authenticate lines from a raw HTTP trace; each line is parsed into challenges.

Are credentials uploaded?

Parsing is client-side. Avoid pasting live secrets into shared machines; treat pasted headers like any other credential artifact.
