What Is a Weight on Other Planets Calculator?

The Weight on Other Planets Calculator shows how much you would weigh on the Moon, Mars, Jupiter, and the other planets and dwarf planets. Weight is the force that gravity pulls you with, so the same mass feels different under different surface gravities. The tool also reports each result as a percentage of your Earth weight.

How the Calculation Works

Mass stays the same everywhere, but weight changes with the local gravitational acceleration:

$$W = m g$$

Because your mass is unchanged, the ratio of two weights depends only on the ratio of surface gravities:

$$W_{planet} = W_{Earth} \times \frac{g_{planet}}{g_{Earth}}$$

Earth's surface gravity is 9.81 m/s². The calculator uses values such as the Moon at 1.62, Mars at 3.71, Venus at 8.87, Jupiter at 24.79, Saturn at 10.44, Uranus at 8.69, Neptune at 11.15, and Pluto at 0.62 m/s².

Worked Example

A 70 kg person on Earth weighs 70 × 9.81 ≈ 686.7 N. On Mars, where gravity is 3.71 m/s²:

$$W_{Mars} = 70 \times \frac{3.71}{9.81} \approx 26.5 \text{ kg equivalent}$$

The same person would feel about 11.6 kg on the Moon and roughly 176.9 kg on Jupiter, or about 2.53 times their Earth weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my weight different on other planets?

Weight is mass times local gravity. Your mass does not change, but each planet pulls on it with a different gravitational acceleration, so the measured force changes.

Where would I weigh the most?

Jupiter has the strongest surface gravity in the tool at 24.79 m/s², about 2.53 times Earth's. The Sun would be far stronger, but it has no solid surface to stand on.

Would the Moon make me lighter or heavier?

The Moon's gravity is 1.62 m/s², about one sixth of Earth's, so a 70 kg person would feel roughly 11.6 kg there.

Should I use kilograms or pounds?

Enter your weight in whichever unit you know. The calculator converts to kilograms internally and returns results in the same unit you selected.
