Wedding Bar Shopping List

Wedding receptions need enough wine, beer, spirits, and champagne without overbuying. Enter how many guests drink each category and reception length to get bottle counts. For general parties, try the Party Drink Calculator. For food planning, see the BBQ Party Calculator.

Wine Bottle Estimates

Wine bottles use the common wedding rule of half the wine drinker count divided by 2.15 bottles per guest group. The tool splits bottles evenly between red and white when both are served.

$$\text{wine bottles} = \left\lceil \frac{\text{wine drinkers}}{2.15} \right\rceil$$

Beer, Vodka, and Champagne

Beer drinkers are estimated at one beer per hour of reception. Vodka drinkers are estimated at 0.5 liters each. Champagne bottles divide guest count by 7 for sparkling toast wine or by 9 for still champagne.

$$\text{beers} = \text{beer drinkers} \times \text{hours}$$

$$\text{champagne bottles} = \left\lceil \frac{\text{champagne drinkers}}{7 \text{ or } 9} \right\rceil$$

Example for 200 Guests

With 80 wine drinkers, 60 beer drinkers, and a 5 hour reception: about 37 wine bottles, 300 beers, and champagne based on toast guest count. Adjust toggles if you skip wine, beer, vodka, or champagne service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much wine do I need for a wedding?

Plan about half a bottle per wine drinker using the 2.15 divisor rule. Split evenly between red and white if you serve both.

How many beers per guest at a wedding?

The tool estimates one beer per hour for each beer drinker over the full reception length.

How much champagne for a toast?

Divide champagne drinkers by 7 for sparkling wine or by 9 for still champagne to get bottle count.

Should I buy extra alcohol?

Many planners add 10 to 15% buffer for unexpected guests or longer celebrations. This calculator gives a baseline shopping list.

Does this include mixers and soft drinks?

No. Vodka amounts cover spirit volume only. Add soft drinks, juice, and mixers separately for cocktails and non-drinkers.

Can I disable categories I am not serving?

Yes. Toggle wine, beer, vodka, or champagne off to focus the list on what your bar actually serves.
