BBQ Party Calculator
Estimate beef, pork, chicken, sausage, and veggie amounts for your barbecue based on guests, hunger level, and meat preferences.
Plan BBQ Food by Guest Count
Backyard barbecue shopping gets easier when meat amounts scale with adults, kids, appetite, and what you actually want on the grill. This calculator uses standard per-guest portions for beef, pork, chicken, sausages, and vegetables, then shifts proportions based on your preferences without changing the overall total. Pair it with the BBQ Grill Size Calculator to check grill space too.
How Portions Are Estimated
Kids count as half an adult portion. Base rates per adult equivalent are roughly 0.18 lb beef, 0.14 lb pork, 0.20 lb chicken, 0.25 lb sausages, and 0.70 lb vegetables before preference weighting. Appetite multipliers range from light (0.75×) to very hungry (1.5×).
Example
For 8 adults, 4 kids, normal appetite, and standard meat choices, you need about 11 lb of food total, split across the categories you selected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does changing meat preferences change total food?
No. Preferences only redistribute the total across categories. Skipping a category sends its share to the items you still want.
Are amounts in pounds raw or cooked?
Amounts are purchase weights before cooking. Meat loses moisture on the grill, so cooked servings look smaller than the raw weight you buy.
What if I only serve chicken?
Set other categories to skip and increase the chicken preference. The tool still scales total food to your guest count and appetite level.
Do sides and buns count in the total?
No. This estimate covers main grill items only. Add buns, sauces, and salads separately.
