Parse Server-Sent Events (SSE) streams

Server-Sent Events let a server push text events over a long-lived HTTP connection. The HTML Living Standard defines the wire format: event, data, id, retry fields, comment lines starting with :, and blank lines that dispatch events. This parser turns captured stream text into structured events for debugging EventSource clients.

Typical workflow

  1. Copy SSE body text from a proxy, test client, or saved log.
  2. Review the event table for type, id, retry, and multi-line data payloads.
  3. Export the JSON array for fixtures or unit tests.

Building HTTP requests? Pair with Querystring to cURL or HTTPie to cURL.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are multiple data lines combined?

Per the SSE spec, consecutive data: fields are joined with newline characters into one payload.

Are comment lines preserved?

Yes. Lines starting with : are stored on each dispatched event as comments.

Does this open a live EventSource connection?

No. It only parses static text you paste, which is ideal for offline debugging.
