Remove List Item Bullets

Remove bullet markers, symbols, numbers, or custom prefixes from the beginning of each item in a list

L ading . . .

What Is a List Item Bullet Remover?

The Remove List Item Bullets tool lets you strip bullet markers, symbols, numbers, and other prefixes from each item in a list. You can use auto-detection mode that recognizes common bullet characters and numbering patterns, or specify a custom regex pattern for more control. This is useful for cleaning up formatted lists and extracting raw text content.

Split your input list by a character or regular expression, choose auto-detect or custom pattern mode, optionally trim whitespace after removal, and instantly get a clean list without any bullet markers.

How to Remove Bullets from List Items

  1. Paste or type your list with bullets into the Input List text area.
  2. Choose a Separator Mode — use Literal for a fixed character or Regex for a pattern.
  3. Enter the Input Separator that currently divides your items.
  4. Select Auto-detect Bullets or Custom Pattern mode.
  5. If using a custom pattern, enter a regex that matches your bullet format.
  6. Set the Output Separator and view the cleaned list instantly.

Common Use Cases

  • Clean up bulleted lists copied from documents or web pages.
  • Extract raw item text from numbered or bulleted lists for further processing.
  • Remove custom prefixes or markers from list data before analysis.
  • Normalize list format when combining data from multiple sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bullet patterns does auto-detect mode recognize?

Auto-detect mode recognizes common bullet symbols (•, ◦, ▪, ▸, –, —, *, →, ➢), numbered patterns (1., 1), (1), #1), dash prefixes (-, >), and bracketed numbers ([1]).

Can I use a custom regex pattern?

Yes. Select Custom Pattern mode and enter a valid regular expression. For example, ^\d+\.\s* matches numbered items like "1. " at the start of each line.

Does the tool also clean up extra spaces after removing bullets?

Yes. Enable the Trim whitespace after removal option to automatically remove any extra spaces that remain after the bullet or prefix is removed.

Can I use a regular expression as a separator?

Yes. Switch to Separate by Regex mode and enter a valid regex pattern for splitting your input list.

Is my list data sent to a server?

No. All processing is done entirely in your browser. Your list data never leaves your device.
