Download photos from a public Instagram post
The Instagram Photo Downloader retrieves available images from a public Instagram post and lets you save each one separately. Paste a post link, select Get photos, and browse the results. Single-photo posts show one image; carousels can show up to 20 images in their original order when Instagram includes their data in its public embed. Otherwise, only an embed preview is available. For video posts and Reels, available images are covers or embed previews rather than video files.
This is useful for saving your own published photos, collecting approved campaign assets, or keeping a reference image with its creator's permission. You do not need to enter an Instagram password. A public link does not grant permission to reuse someone else's work.
How to save Instagram images
- Copy the post link. Open the post on Instagram and copy its link from the share menu or your browser's address bar.
- Paste the link. Supported paths include
/p/,/reel/, and/reels/on Instagram's domain. Tracking parameters on shared links are accepted. - Get the available photos. Review the previews, image dimensions when supplied, and labels distinguishing photos from video covers.
- Download an image. Save each file individually. The tool keeps the image bytes Instagram provides rather than taking a screenshot or enlarging the preview.
Supported content and download limits
| Content | Result |
|---|---|
| Public photo post | The available photo or embed preview |
| Public carousel | Up to 20 images when included in the embed, or one preview |
| Public video or Reel | The cover image, without video or audio |
| Private post, Story, or direct message | Unavailable |
| Image larger than 10 MB | Download declined |
Image quality is limited to the file Instagram exposes in its public embed. An embed preview may have a lower resolution than the post image. Instagram may already have resized or compressed an uploaded photo, so this tool cannot recover the camera original. Supported downloads include JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF when provided by Instagram.
Why a public post might be unavailable
Public visibility does not guarantee that Instagram will make a post available to this tool. Deleted posts, expired image links, age or region restrictions, login prompts, rate limits, and upstream changes can prevent retrieval. Check the link and try again later if the post is public. Fetch the post again if a preview appears but its download has expired.
Post retrieval uses our server to contact Instagram. Image previews may load from Instagram's media servers. The tool does not ask for your account credentials or attempt to access private content.
Prepare downloaded photos for your next project
After saving an image you are allowed to edit, use Instagram Filters for preset color effects or Image Resizer to change its dimensions. For a Reel's cover specifically, try the Instagram Thumbnail Downloader.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download photos from a private Instagram account?
No. The tool only attempts to retrieve publicly available posts. It cannot access private accounts, direct messages, or Stories.
Can I download every image in a carousel?
When Instagram includes carousel data in its public embed, the tool lists up to 20 available images and video covers in order. Otherwise, it offers only the embed preview and displays a notice. Use the download button below each preview to save individual files.
Does this tool download Instagram videos?
No. Video posts and Reels return cover images only. Video and audio files are not downloaded by this tool.
Will the downloaded image have its original quality?
The download keeps the file Instagram provides without further image re-encoding. This may differ from the creator's original upload because Instagram can resize and compress photos.
Why does an image download fail after its preview loads?
Instagram media links can expire or become unavailable. Fetch the post again, then retry. Files above 10 MB and unsupported formats are declined.
Do I need to sign in or provide my password?
No. Paste the public post link only. You should never enter your Instagram password into this tool.
