Parse query strings into tables and nested JSON

Application servers and JavaScript frameworks accept many query encodings: repeated keys for arrays, bracket notation such as filter[color]=black, and comma-separated lists. This parser normalizes a raw query string into a flat key/value table and pretty-printed JSON using the same nesting rules as common PHP and Rails parameter parsers.

Options explained

  • Bracket notation, builds nested objects from keys like user[name] or tags[].
  • Comma splitting, turns ids=1,2,3 into an array when enabled.

Convert the result to JSON for APIs with Convert Query String to JSON, or diff two URLs with the Query Params Diff tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I include the question mark?

Either format works. The parser strips a leading ? and also accepts a full URL, using only the search portion.

Are empty values preserved?

Yes. A key with no value (for example flag&page=1) is stored as an empty string unless you disable parsing options that skip empties.

Does this decode percent-encoding?

Yes. URLSearchParams decodes %20 and other escape sequences automatically.
