Pool Calculator
Calculate swimming pool volume in gallons, liters, and cubic feet from pool dimensions and depth.
What Is a Pool Calculator?
A pool calculator answers the common question: how many gallons is my pool? Enter your pool dimensions and depth to get volume in US gallons, imperial gallons, liters, and cubic feet. It also estimates water fill cost. For pool chemistry and maintenance, see our Pool Water Maintenance Calculator.
How to Calculate Pool Volume
For a rectangular pool with a sloped bottom, multiply length, width, and average depth:
$$ V = l \times w \times \frac{d_1 + d_2}{2} $$
For an oval or circular pool:
$$ V = \frac{\pi \times l \times w}{4} \times \frac{d_1 + d_2}{2} $$
Where $d_1$ is the shallow end depth and $d_2$ is the deep end depth. If both ends are the same depth, enter the same value in both fields.
Converting Pool Volume to Gallons
- 1 cubic foot = 7.48 US gallons
- 1 cubic meter = 264.172 US gallons
- 1 US gallon = 3.785 liters
- Olympic pool (50 m × 25 m × 2 m) holds about 660,000 US gallons
Frequently Asked Questions
How many gallons does a 12 × 50 ft pool hold?
A 12 ft × 50 ft pool with depths of 4 ft and 6 ft holds about 22,441 US gallons. The average depth is 5 ft, giving a volume of 3,000 cubic feet, which converts to 22,441 gallons.
What if my pool has the same depth throughout?
Enter the same depth value in both the shallow and deep depth fields. The calculator uses the average of the two values, so identical entries give the correct uniform depth.
How do I estimate the cost to fill my pool?
Enter your local water price per gallon. The calculator multiplies total gallons by the water rate. Typical US municipal water costs about $1.50 per 1,000 gallons.
Does this work for oval and rectangular pools?
Yes. Select rectangular for square or rectangular pools, and oval for oval or circular pools. Enter the maximum length and width for oval shapes.
