Monthly Income Calculator (Gross and Take-Home Pay)

The Monthly Income Calculator simplifies personal budgeting by converting annual salaries, hourly pay rates, weekly wages, or bi-weekly paychecks into exact monthly gross income and estimated net take-home earnings.

How to Calculate Monthly Income

Calculating monthly pay depends on your original pay structure:

  • From Annual Salary: Divide your yearly salary by 12. $$\text{Monthly Gross} = \frac{\text{Annual Salary}}{12}$$
  • From Hourly Wage: Multiply hourly rate by weekly working hours, then multiply by annual working weeks and divide by 12. $$\text{Monthly Gross} = \frac{\text{Hourly Rate} \times \text{Hours per Week} \times \text{Weeks per Year}}{12}$$
  • From Bi-Weekly Pay: Multiply bi-weekly paycheck amount by 26 pay periods per year, then divide by 12. $$\text{Monthly Gross} = \frac{\text{Bi-Weekly Pay} \times 26}{12}$$

Estimating Monthly Net Take-Home Pay

Your net monthly income equals your gross monthly earnings minus estimated income taxes, FICA (Social Security and Medicare), and optional benefits:

$$\text{Net Monthly Income} = \text{Gross Monthly Income} \times (1 - \text{Tax Rate})$$

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is monthly pay not simply 4 times weekly pay?

A standard year contains 52 weeks, which equals 4.33 weeks per month ($52 / 12 = 4.333$). Multiplying weekly pay by 4 underestimates your actual monthly income by roughly 8%.

How many bi-weekly paychecks are in a month?

Most months contain 2 bi-weekly paychecks. However, because there are 26 bi-weekly pay periods in a 52-week year, 2 months out of the year will contain 3 paychecks.

What deductions are subtracted from gross monthly income?

Gross monthly pay is reduced by federal income tax, state and local taxes, FICA taxes (7.65% for Social Security and Medicare), health insurance premiums, and retirement contributions (401k/IRA).
