Uncooked to Cooked Rice Conversion

Rice roughly triples in volume when cooked. Enter uncooked amount to find cooked yield, or enter cooked amount to find how much dry rice you need. For water and cook time by rice type, use the Rice Water Ratio Calculator. For pasta yields, see the Dry to Cooked Pasta Converter.

The 1 to 3 Rule

One cup of uncooked white rice yields about three cups cooked. The calculator uses this ratio for cups and converts grams using about 185 grams per cup of uncooked rice.

$$\text{cooked cups} = \text{uncooked cups} \times 3$$

$$\text{uncooked cups} = \frac{\text{cooked cups}}{3}$$

Supported Units

Enter amounts in cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, grams, or ounces. The tool normalizes to cups first, then applies the triple rule and shows both cup and gram results.

Example: 2 Cups Uncooked Rice

Cooked yield is $2 \times 3 = 6$ cups. Uncooked weight is about $2 \times 185 = 370$ grams. Cooked weight is about $6 \times 185 = 1,110$ grams.
