The Gregorian calendar has 12 months with varying lengths:

• January: 31 days
• February: 28 days (29 in leap years)
• March: 31 days
• April: 30 days

• October: 31 days
• November: 30 days
• December: 31 days

You can remember this with the traditional rhyme: "Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November. All the rest have thirty-one, except February alone, which has twenty-eight days clear, and twenty-nine in each leap year."

Understanding Leap Years

A leap year occurs every 4 years and adds an extra day to February (February 29). The rules for determining a leap year are:

• Years divisible by 4 are leap years (e.g., 2024, 2028)
• Exception: Years divisible by 100 are NOT leap years (e.g., 1900, 2100)
• Exception to the exception: Years divisible by 400 ARE leap years (e.g., 2000, 2400)

This means the average year length is 365.2425 days, which closely approximates the tropical year of 365.2422 days. The next leap year is 2028.
