How do I calculate the number of steps for my stairs?
Divide the total rise by your desired riser height, then round up to the nearest whole number. Divide the total rise by this number to get the actual riser height. For example, a 100-inch total rise with a 7-inch desired riser gives 14.3 steps, which rounds to 15 steps with an actual riser height of 6.67 inches.
What is the difference between standard and flush stringer mount?
A standard stringer mount has the stringer attached to the inside of the header, creating a finished look where the riser at the top of the stairs meets the upper floor. A flush stringer mount has the stringer butted against the header, which can provide additional headroom but requires the top tread to be flush with the upper floor level.
