Draw on a pixel grid in the browser

Pick an 8, 16, 32, or 64 pixel grid, choose a color, and paint with the pencil, eraser, or fill tool. Click or drag to color cells. Fill replaces a connected region of the same color, including the empty background. Undo steps back through recent strokes, and clear restores a blank grid of the current size.

Download a sharp PNG

The download scales each cell to an integer block of about 512 pixels on the long side and turns smoothing off, so edges stay crisp instead of blurred. Empty cells export as white. Changing the grid size starts a new blank canvas because the old drawing does not map cleanly onto a different number of cells.

If you want pixel lettering from typed text, use Convert Text to Pixel Art. For photo color effects, use Image Filters. To turn a finished PNG into vectors, use the PNG to SVG Converter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the drawing stay after a refresh?

Grid size, color, and tool can be shared in the URL. The painted cells stay in the page session only, so copy the PNG if you need to keep the picture.

How does fill work?

Fill starts at the cell you click and spreads to neighboring cells that share the same color, including empty cells. It does not cross a different color.

Can I use this on a phone?

Yes. The canvas uses pointer events, so a finger drag paints the same way a mouse does. Fill still works from a single tap.

Why is the exported file larger than the grid?

A 16 by 16 image is tiny on a modern screen. The PNG repeats each pixel as a solid block so the art stays sharp when you post or print it.

Is white the same as an empty cell?

On the canvas, empty cells are a light gray and painted white is pure white, so you can see the difference while drawing. The downloaded PNG uses white for empty cells.
