How to Measure for a Jacket

To get the most accurate results, use a fabric measuring tape and wear thin clothing:

• Chest Circumference: Wrap the tape under your armpits and around the fullest part of your chest or bust. Keep the tape horizontal and snug but not tight.
• Height (Men): Stand straight against a wall and measure from the floor to the top of your head. This determines if you need a Short (S), Regular (R), or Long (L) fit.
• Hips Circumference (Women): Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks to ensure the jacket hem fits comfortably.

Jacket Size Conversions and Formulas

For men, standard suit and jacket sizes in the US and UK correspond directly to the chest circumference in inches. In Europe, the size is typically the US size plus 10 (or chest circumference in cm divided by 2).

For women, sizes are determined by a combination of bust and hip measurements. Sizing runs on numerical scales (0, 2, 4, etc.) and letter ranges (XS, S, M, etc.) which map to various regional systems.
