GWA Calculator
Compute your General Weighted Average (GWA) from course grades and units using Philippine grading systems.
What Is GWA?
GWA (General Weighted Average) is the standard grading metric used by many Philippine universities. It weights each course grade by its unit count so major subjects count more than minor ones.
GWA Formula
$$\text{GWA} = \frac{\sum_{i=1}^{n} (g_i \times u_i)}{\sum_{i=1}^{n} u_i}$$
Where $g_i$ is the grade for course $i$ and $u_i$ is its unit count.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my GWA?
Multiply each course grade by its units, add those products, then divide by your total units. This tool does that automatically for up to 30 courses.
What grading systems are supported?
Philippine 1.00 to 5.00 scale, Philippine 4.00 to 1.00 scale, and letter grades mapped to a 4.0 GPA scale.
What is a passing GWA in the Philippines?
On a 1.00 to 5.00 scale where 1.00 is highest, passing is typically 3.00 or lower. On a 4.00 to 1.00 scale, passing is typically 1.00 or higher.
How is overall GWA calculated?
Sum all grade-times-unit products across every course taken, then divide by total units earned throughout your program.
Is GWA the same as GPA?
GWA is the Philippine term for a weighted academic average. GPA is the common term in the United States, but the weighted calculation method is the same.
