Even Parity Calculator
Generate or verify even parity bits for binary messages with custom parity bit position support.
What Is Even Parity?
Even parity adds one parity bit so the total number of 1 bits in a binary message is even. Receivers can detect single-bit transmission errors by checking parity.
Even Parity Rules
- If the data bits contain an even number of 1s, parity bit is 0.
- If the data bits contain an odd number of 1s, parity bit is 1.
Convert messages with the ASCII Converter before applying parity encoding.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is even parity bit calculated?
Count the 1 bits in the data. If the count is even, parity is 0. If odd, parity is 1. Equivalent to ones count modulo 2.
What is the even parity for 1001011?
The data has four 1 bits (even), so parity bit is 0 and encoded message is 10010110 when appended at the end.
Can I place the parity bit anywhere?
Yes. Use the position field in generate mode. Leave it empty to append parity at the end of the message.
What is the difference between even and odd parity?
Even parity keeps total 1 bits even. Odd parity keeps total 1 bits odd. Both detect single-bit errors but use opposite parity rules.
Can parity detect all errors?
No. Parity detects odd numbers of bit flips. Two flipped bits can still pass an even parity check.
