Find a Public Vimeo Video Thumbnail

Vimeo Thumbnail Grabber retrieves the poster image returned by Vimeo for a public video. Paste a video link to see its thumbnail, title and creator, then copy the image URL or save the image. The lookup runs automatically after you stop typing, without an account or API key.

How to Save a Vimeo Thumbnail

  1. Copy the public Vimeo video link and paste it into Vimeo URL.
  2. Wait for the thumbnail and video details to appear.
  3. Keep the returned image size or choose a smaller resized preview when available.
  4. Select Download image. If your browser blocks the automatic save, select Open image and save from that tab.
  5. Use the copy control beside Thumbnail URL when you need the image address.

Supported Video Links

The tool accepts standard Vimeo video links, channel links, group video links, showcase video links and player.vimeo.com/video links. It extracts the numeric video ID and requests the public video metadata. Profile pages, search pages and links to other services are not video inputs.

For example, a standard video link looks like https://vimeo.com/108018156. A player link uses https://player.vimeo.com/video/108018156. Tracking parameters are removed before the lookup. The tool targets public videos and does not preserve private access hashes or attempt to unlock protected content.

Image Sizes and Quality

Vimeo supplies a thumbnail URL and its dimensions through its public oEmbed response. The returned size varies by video. When its image URL supports resizing, the selector offers smaller widths such as 320, 640 or 1280 pixels, limited to values below the returned width. Heights follow the original aspect ratio.

Smaller options are resized versions of the same poster, rather than separate video frames. This tool does not invent an HD image, upscale a small thumbnail or download the video itself. A creator changing their poster can also change the thumbnail returned by Vimeo.

When a Thumbnail Is Unavailable

A removed, private, password-protected or embedding-restricted video may not provide a public thumbnail. Vimeo can also temporarily reject requests or apply rate limits. Check the video URL and try Retry lookup. Network restrictions, browser extensions or image server restrictions may prevent a preview or automatic download even when the video page opens.

The Open image link provides a direct browser option when saving through the download button fails. Image links are hosted by Vimeo and may change, so save a permitted copy when you need a stable asset for your project.

Privacy and Image Rights

Lookups run from your browser to Vimeo, and image requests go to Vimeo's image CDN. Vimeo receives the requested video link and normal connection information. This editor does not place your input in page URL parameters or save your history. Use images you own or have permission to reuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Vimeo API key?

No. The tool uses Vimeo's public oEmbed endpoint to retrieve the poster metadata for an accessible video.

Does it work with private videos?

This tool targets public videos. It does not preserve private access hashes, use account credentials or unlock password-protected videos.

Can I always download a 1920-pixel image?

No. The maximum offered size is the thumbnail returned by Vimeo for that video. The tool does not upscale it.

Are the smaller options different frames?

No. They resize the same poster while keeping its aspect ratio.

Why did the automatic download fail?

The image server, browser or network may block a request. Open image lets you view and save the image directly.

Does the tool download the video?

No. It retrieves only the thumbnail image and basic public metadata.
