Stock Return Calculator

Calculate total return, ROI, and CAGR from buy and sell prices, shares, dividends, and holding period.

O M T

Measure investment performance with total return and CAGR

Stock return goes beyond the difference between buy and sell prices. Dividends, holding period, and compounding all affect how you compare one investment to another. This calculator totals your gain or loss in dollars, expresses it as ROI, and annualizes the result with compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CAGR?

CAGR (compound annual growth rate) is the smoothed yearly return that would grow your starting value to your ending value over the holding period, assuming gains compound once per year.

Are trading commissions included?

This version focuses on share prices and dividends. Add commissions manually by adjusting your buy or sell price if you need net-of-fee results.

How should I enter partial years?

Use decimal years. For example, 18 months is 1.5 years. CAGR needs a positive holding period to annualize correctly.

Is my data stored?
