The 2/3 Rule for Sofa Scaling

Interior designers use standard rules to ensure furniture matches the room's scale. The most popular guideline is the 2/3 Rule:

• A sofa's total width (length) should ideally be about two-thirds (67%) of the length of the wall it is placed against.
• If a sofa exceeds this ratio, the room can feel cramped and cluttered.
• If it is much smaller, the sofa might look swallowed by the wall.

Checking Your Delivery Clearance

Measuring delivery corridors is just as important as measuring the living room. Follow these steps:

1. Measure Doorways: Note the height and width inside the door frame. Remember to measure the clear opening width (accounting for the door itself if it cannot open fully).
2. Check Hallways and Stairwells: Identify the narrowest width along the pathway. Make sure to account for handrails or light fixtures that might decrease clearance.
3. Calculate Diagonal Depth: For tight corners, movers stand sofas on one end. The diagonal depth (calculated as sqrt(depth² + height²)) must be smaller than the doorway width to pass through.
