Running Pace Calculator

This Running Pace Calculator converts a finish time and distance into running pace and speed. Select a preset event (5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon) or enter a custom distance, then add your finish time to see pace per kilometer, pace per mile, and speed in km/h and mph.

How Running Pace Is Calculated

Pace = finish time / distance, expressed as minutes and seconds per kilometer or per mile. Speed is the inverse: distance divided by time, shown in km/h and mph.

Using Pace to Train and Race

Knowing your pace helps you set realistic race goals and structure training runs. To project times at other distances from a recent result, use our Race Predictor Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate running pace?

Divide your total time in seconds by the distance in kilometers. For example, a 50-minute 10K is 3000 seconds / 10 km = 5:00 per km.

What is a good running pace?

For recreational runners, 5:30–6:30 per km (9–10 min/mile) is common. Competitive runners often train below 5:00 per km.

Can I enter distance in miles?

Yes. Select miles or meters as your distance unit. Pace is always shown per km and per mile.

What time format should I use?

Enter finish time as HH:MM:SS for races over an hour, or MM:SS for shorter efforts. Examples: 25:00 for a 5K or 3:45:00 for a marathon.
