Calculate US Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) scores for push-ups, plank, and 1.5-mile run/cardio events with age and gender standards.
Understanding the US Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT)
The US Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) evaluates active duty and reserve Sailors' physical fitness levels. Conducted twice per year as part of the Physical Readiness Program, the PRT measures muscular endurance and cardiorespiratory fitness across three required events.
Scoring standards vary by gender and 5-year age brackets to ensure fair and accurate evaluation across all demographics in the naval service.
Events Included in the Navy PRT
- 1. Push-ups (2-Minute Timed Event): Measures upper body muscular strength and endurance. Sailors perform maximum correct repetitions within a 2-minute limit.
- 2. Forearm Plank: Measures core muscular endurance, replacing the traditional curl-up event. Sailors maintain a rigid plank posture for maximum duration.
- 3. Cardiorespiratory Option: Evaluates aerobic capacity via a 1.5-mile timed run, 500-yard / 450-meter swim, 2000m row, or stationary bike test.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum passing score on the Navy PRT?
To pass the PRT, a Sailor must score at least 50 points (Satisfactory Medium) in every single event, with an overall average PRT score of 50 points or higher. Scoring below 50 in any single event results in an overall failure.
How is the forearm plank scored on the Navy PRT?
The forearm plank is scored by duration maintained in proper posture. For example, maintaining a plank for 3 minutes and 40 seconds achieves a maximum score of 100 points.
Are alternative cardio events allowed on the Navy PRT?
Yes. Subject to commanding officer approval and medical clearance, Sailors may choose alternative cardio options such as the 500-yard swim, 2000-meter row, or stationary bike test instead of the 1.5-mile run.
