Mortar bag formula

Mortar quantity is based on how many bricks or blocks one bag covers:

Yield varies by brick or block size and mortar bag weight. An 80 lb bag typically covers about 40 modular bricks or 12 eight-inch concrete blocks. Results are always rounded up because mortar is sold in whole bags.

Why are bags rounded up?

Mortar is sold in full bags at retail. If the exact calculation is 8.3 bags, you need to purchase 9 bags to complete the wall.
