What is Kakuro?

Kakuro, also known as Cross Sums, is a popular mathematical logic puzzle. It is frequently described as a mathematical transliteration of the crossword puzzle. The game consists of a grid containing clue cells (split diagonally with numbers) and empty input cells. The goal of the puzzle is to insert digits from 1 to 9 into the empty cells so that the sum of each horizontal and vertical block matches the clues, without repeating any digit within a single run.

How to Play Kakuro

To solve a Kakuro puzzle, follow these simple rules:

  • Fill the white cells with digits from 1 to 9.
  • The sum of digits in each horizontal run must equal the number in the top-right corner of the clue cell to its left.
  • The sum of digits in each vertical run must equal the number in the bottom-left corner of the clue cell above it.
  • No digit can be repeated in any single run (horizontal or vertical block).
