JSON to JSON Lines Converter

Convert a JSON array into newline-delimited JSON (JSONL) for streaming pipelines, logs, and bulk imports. Runs entirely in your browser.

When You Need JSON Lines

JSON Lines is the standard interchange format for streaming analytics, machine learning datasets, and ETL jobs. Each array element becomes its own line, so downstream workers can process records incrementally without loading a giant JSON document into memory.

Input Requirements

The converter expects a JSON array at the root. Every item in that array is serialized to one line. Nested objects stay intact inside each line; only the outer wrapper changes from [...] to newline-separated records.

Workflow Tips

  • Keep Compact one-line records enabled for production JSONL files.
  • Disable compact mode when you want multi-line pretty records for debugging only.
  • Download the output as .jsonl and feed it to BigQuery, Elasticsearch, or custom importers.

Need the reverse direction? Use the JSON Lines to JSON Converter. For general cleanup, try the JSON Minifier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why must the input be an array?

JSONL represents a sequence of values. A JSON array is the natural source structure, with one array element exported per line.

Can I convert a single JSON object?

Wrap the object in an array first, for example [{"id":1}], then convert. One line will be produced.

Are trailing newlines added?

The output joins lines with newline characters. There is no extra blank line after the final record.

Does the tool change field order?

No. JSON.stringify preserves the insertion order of object keys as defined in your input.

Is processing done on your servers?

No. Everything runs locally in the browser for privacy and speed.
