Acceptance rate measures how selective a college, program, or application process is. It is the percentage of applicants who receive an offer of admission.
Acceptance Rate Formula
Acceptance rate = (applicants accepted ÷ total applicants) × 100. Rejection rate is the share of applicants who were not accepted and not waitlisted. If you enter a waitlist count, waitlist rate is calculated the same way.
Example
With 140,000 applicants and 15,000 acceptances, the acceptance rate is 15,000 ÷ 140,000 × 100 = 10.71%. A lower rate usually means a more competitive process.

What is a good acceptance rate?
It depends on context. Highly selective schools often admit fewer than 10% of applicants. Less selective programs may accept 50% or more.
How is rejection rate calculated?
Rejection rate = (total applicants − accepted − waitlisted) ÷ total applicants × 100. Applicants who were neither accepted nor waitlisted count as rejected.
Can acceptance rate be over 100%?
No. Accepted applicants cannot exceed total applicants. The calculator caps accepted count at the total number of applicants.
