Heptathlon Points Calculator

This Heptathlon Calculator converts track and field results into World Athletics scoring points for the women's outdoor heptathlon. Enter your times, heights, and distances across all seven events to see per-event points and your total score. For running pace planning, try our Half Marathon Pace Calculator.

Women's Heptathlon Events

The outdoor heptathlon spans two days: Day 1 includes 100 m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200 m. Day 2 includes long jump, javelin throw, and 800 m. Each performance is converted to points using official World Athletics formulas, then summed for the final total.

Scoring Formulas

Running events use P = A × (B − T)^C where T is time in seconds. Jumping events use P = A × (M − B)^C with M in centimeters. Throwing events use P = A × (D − B)^C with D in meters. Points are rounded down to the nearest whole number. Manual timing for 100 m hurdles and 200 m adds 0.24 seconds before scoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are heptathlon points calculated?

World Athletics assigns constants A, B, and C to each event. Your result is plugged into a running, jumping, or throwing formula, and the points from all seven events are added together.

What is a good heptathlon score?

Elite heptathletes score above 6,000 points. The world record of 7,291 was set by Jackie Joyner-Kersee in 1988. Recreational multi-event athletes often score between 4,000 and 5,500 points.

Why does manual timing add 0.24 seconds?

World Athletics rules require adding 0.24 seconds to manually timed results for sprint events up to 400 meters to account for reaction time differences compared to electronic timing.

What units should I use for each event?

Enter 100 m hurdles and 200 m in seconds, high jump and long jump in centimeters, shot put and javelin in meters, and 800 m as MM:SS (for example 2:10.00).

How is the heptathlon different from the decathlon?

The heptathlon has seven events for women outdoors, while the decathlon has ten events for men. Both use similar scoring tables but with different event lineups and point constants.
