The Elo Rating Formula
Expected score: E = 1 / (10^((opponent - player) / 400) + 1). Rating change: Δ = K × (actual score - expected score). A win scores 1, a draw 0.5, and a loss 0. When two equally rated players meet (1500 vs 1500), each has a 50% expected score; a win with K=20 gains +10 points.
