Deadline Calculator
Calculate deadlines by adding or subtracting days, weeks, months, or years from any date. Automatically adjusts for weekends and federal holidays with our free online deadline calculator.
What Is a Deadline Calculator?
A deadline calculator computes the exact date that falls a given number of days, weeks, months, or years before or after a start date. It automatically adjusts for weekends and US federal holidays, ensuring you never miss a filing date due to a Saturday, Sunday, or observed holiday.
This tool is especially useful for legal professionals, project managers, accountants, and anyone who needs to comply with court deadlines, regulatory filings, contract obligations, or business milestones that exclude non-business days.
How to Use This Calculator
- Set your start date. Select the reference date from which to count.
- Enter the time period. Specify how many days, weeks, months, or years to add or subtract.
- Choose the direction. Select whether the deadline is after or before the start date.
- View the corrected deadline. The result automatically adjusts for weekends and federal holidays.
How Deadlines Are Calculated
The calculator first computes the base deadline by adding or subtracting your chosen time period. If that date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, the tool adjusts it to the nearest business day:
- After deadlines that land on a Saturday or Sunday are moved forward to Monday. If that Monday is a holiday, they move forward again.
- Before deadlines that land on a Saturday or Sunday are moved backward to Friday. If that Friday is a holiday, they move backward again.
- Federal holidays are also avoided using the same correction rules.
The tool considers the following US federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Common Deadline Scenarios
- Court filings: Add 30 days to a complaint date, avoiding weekends and holidays.
- Contract obligations: Subtract 60 days from a delivery date to find your preparation deadline.
- Tax deadlines: Add 90 days to a notification date and see the corrected due date.
- Project milestones: Add weeks or months to a kickoff date and adjust for business days.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the deadline calculator handle weekends?
Yes. If the computed deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is automatically adjusted to the nearest business day. After deadlines move to Monday; before deadlines move to Friday.
Which federal holidays are considered?
Ten US federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Can I use weeks or months instead of days?
Yes. You can choose days, weeks, months, or years as the time unit when calculating your deadline.
What is the difference between "after" and "before" deadlines?
"After" adds time to your start date (forward). "Before" subtracts time from your start date (backward). Weekend/holiday corrections apply differently for each direction.
Is this calculator suitable for state-specific court deadlines?
This calculator uses US federal holidays for correction. If your jurisdiction observes additional state holidays, use the result as a baseline and manually account for extra holidays.
How far in the future can I calculate deadlines?
There is no limit. You can calculate deadlines years into the future for long-term planning, contract milestones, or statute of limitations tracking.
