How to Calculate Business Days
To calculate business days between two dates:
- Count all days between the start and end dates
- Subtract weekend days (typically Saturday and Sunday)
- Subtract any holidays that fall on weekdays
- The remaining days are your business days
This calculator handles all of these steps automatically. You can customize which days are considered weekends and add your own list of holidays.
Business Day Options
- Monday to Friday (5-day week): The standard work week excluding Saturday and Sunday
- Monday to Saturday (6-day week): Excludes only Sundays common in some countries and industries

Adding Holidays

On average there are about 260 business days in a year assuming a 5-day work week (Monday to Friday). This number varies slightly depending on the year and the number of public holidays observed. In 2026 there are 261 business days in the US.
What is the difference between business days and calendar days?
Calendar days include every day of the week including weekends and holidays. Business days only count Monday through Friday (or whichever days you define as working days) and exclude holidays. For example 5 calendar days might only be 3 business days if they span a weekend.
How many business days are in a month?
On average there are between 19 and 22 business days per month depending on the month length and weekends. For a 6-day work week there are between 24 and 27 business days per month.
Do business days include the start and end dates?
By default this calculator includes the end date in the count. You can uncheck the "Include End Date" option if you want to exclude it. The start date is always included. This gives you flexibility depending on your specific calculation needs.
Are public holidays counted as business days?
No public holidays are not counted as business days. You can enter your specific public holidays in the calculator and they will be excluded from the business day count. Holidays that fall on weekends are automatically handled since they are already excluded as weekend days.
