What This Cooking Measurement Converter Does

Convert between weight and volume units for common kitchen ingredients. Enter grams, kilograms, ounces, pounds, milliliters, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, or fluid ounces, then pick an ingredient so density can bridge mass and volume. Weight and Volume Formulas

$$\text{mass} = \text{density} \times \text{volume}$$

$$\text{volume} = \frac{\text{mass}}{\text{density}}$$

Density is in grams per milliliter. A cup is treated as 236.588 mL (US customary cup). Results are estimates because packing and brand differences change real kitchen density.

Example

Butter has density about 0.911 g/ml. One stick is often 113 g, which is about 124 ml or roughly half a US cup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to choose an ingredient?

Weight and volume are linked by density. Flour and honey have very different densities, so 1 cup does not weigh the same for every ingredient.

Are US and metric cups the same?

No. This tool uses the US customary cup of 236.588 mL. A metric cup is 250 mL.

Can I use a custom density?

Yes. Choose Custom Ingredient and enter density in g/ml when your product is not listed.

How accurate are the conversions?

They are practical kitchen estimates. Sifting, humidity, and how tightly you scoop can shift results by a noticeable amount.
