Cigarette Calculator
Estimate total cigarettes smoked over your lifetime from daily use, pack size, and smoking duration.
What Does This Calculator Estimate?
This tool estimates how many cigarettes you have smoked over a chosen period based on daily use and smoking duration. It also reports pack-years, a metric used in lung cancer and cardiovascular risk models. For broader substance impact estimates, see the Addiction Calculator.
How the Math Works
Total cigarettes equals daily cigarettes multiplied by the number of days in your selected time frame. You can enter cigarettes per day directly or derive daily use from packs per day and cigarettes per pack.
Pack-Years
Pack-years combine intensity and duration: packs smoked per day times years of smoking. Clinicians use this value when discussing screening and risk counseling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enter packs per day instead of cigarettes?
Yes. Switch to packs per day, enter your pack count, and set cigarettes per pack (default 20).
What time units are supported?
Years, months, weeks, and days. The calculator converts each unit into total days before multiplying by daily use.
Is this a medical diagnosis tool?
No. It is an educational estimator. Discuss smoking cessation and health risks with a qualified clinician.
How is pack-years calculated?
Pack-years equal average packs per day multiplied by years of smoking, using your daily cigarette count and pack size.
