Thaw Time by Method

Refrigerator thawing takes about 6 hours per pound. Cold water thawing takes about 30 minutes per pound. Microwave thawing is much faster at about 0.1 hours per pound but works only for smaller birds and specific microwave models.

Finish Time vs Start Time Modes

In finish mode, enter when you want the turkey thawed and the tool shows when to start. In start mode, enter when you begin thawing and the tool shows when the bird will be ready. Both modes use the same thaw duration for your weight and method.

Example: 20 lb Turkey in the Fridge

Thaw time is $20 \times 6 = 120$ hours, or 5 days. To be ready Thursday morning, start thawing the previous Saturday morning.
