NFL Passer Rating

Passer rating (quarterback rating) is the NFL's composite statistic for evaluating quarterback passing performance. It combines completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown rate, and interception rate into a single score from 0 to 158.3.

Passer Rating Formula

The NFL formula calculates four components (each capped between 0 and 2.375), then averages them: ((a + b + c + d) / 6) × 100, where a = completion %, b = yards/attempt, c = TD rate, and d = interception rate components.

Rating Scale

A rating of 100 or above is excellent. The theoretical perfect rating is 158.3, though no quarterback has achieved a perfect season rating. League average is typically around 90.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good passer rating?

90+ is solid, 100+ is very good, and 110+ is elite. Aaron Rodgers holds the highest career NFL passer rating at over 103.

What is the maximum passer rating?

The maximum possible NFL passer rating is 158.3, achieved when all four formula components reach their ceiling of 2.375.

Is this the same as NCAA passer rating?

No. College football uses a different formula with a different scale. This calculator uses the official NFL/CFL passer rating formula.
