Moneyline Odds Calculator
Convert chances for and against into American moneyline odds with win probability, payout, and streak odds.
What Are Moneyline Odds?
Moneyline (American) odds express how much you risk or win relative to a $100 stake. Favorites show a minus sign (for example -250 means risk $250 to win $100). Underdogs show a plus sign (for example +150 means risk $100 to win $150). Related tools: Fractional Odds Calculator and Implied Probability Calculator.
How to Calculate Moneyline Odds
From chances for success ($F$) and chances against ($A$), the fractional odds are:
$$f = \frac{A}{F}$$
- If $f > 1$ (underdog): moneyline $= f \times 100$
- If $f < 1$ (favorite): moneyline $= -100 / f$
- If $f = 1$ (even): moneyline $= +100$
Example
With 5 chances for and 2 against, $f = 2/5 = 0.4$. Because $f < 1$:
$$\text{moneyline} = \frac{-100}{0.4} = -250$$
Win probability is $5 / 7 \approx 71.43\%$. A $100 stake at -250 returns about $40 net profit if it wins ($140 total returned).
Payout From American Odds
- Positive odds $+M$: net profit $= \text{stake} \times M / 100$
- Negative odds $-M$: net profit $= \text{stake} \times 100 / M$
Frequently Asked Questions
What does -150 mean?
You must wager $150 to win $100 profit. The selection is a favorite relative to even money.
What does +150 mean?
A $100 stake wins $150 profit if the bet succeeds. The selection is an underdog.
How do I get probability from moneyline?
For negative odds $-M$, probability ≈ $M / (M + 100)$. For positive odds $+M$, probability ≈ $100 / (M + 100)$. This calculator builds odds from chances, so probability is $F / (F + A)$.
