E-Bike Range Calculator

This E-Bike Range Calculator estimates how far your electric bike can travel on a single charge. It uses battery capacity in watt-hours (Wh) and an estimated power draw based on assist level, rider weight, terrain, and average speed. Range equals battery energy divided by watts consumption, multiplied by your riding speed.

How Range Is Estimated

Range (km) = (Battery Wh ÷ Watts) × Speed (km/h). Power draw increases with higher assist levels, heavier riders, hillier terrain, and faster cruising speeds. Eco mode extends range; turbo mode shortens it. A 500 Wh battery at roughly 200 W draw and 20 km/h can cover about 50 km before recharging.

Factors That Affect Real-World Range

Tire pressure, wind, temperature, motor efficiency, and stop-and-go riding all change actual range. Use this tool as a planning estimate and leave a buffer for hills, headwinds, and battery aging.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate e-bike range?

Divide battery capacity (Wh) by estimated power consumption (W) to get ride time in hours, then multiply by your average speed in km/h to get range in kilometers.

What is a good battery capacity for an e-bike?

Most commuter e-bikes use 400-750 Wh batteries. Larger packs (900+ Wh) suit longer tours or mountainous routes where assist is used more heavily.

Does assist level affect range?

Yes. Higher assist levels draw more power from the battery. Eco mode maximizes range; turbo mode provides the most help but drains the battery fastest.

How does rider weight influence range?

Heavier riders (plus cargo) require more motor assistance, especially on climbs. The calculator adjusts power draw based on rider weight relative to a 75 kg reference.

Why is my actual range different from the estimate?

Real rides include wind, stops, cold weather, tire rolling resistance, and battery age. Treat the calculator result as a benchmark and plan with 10-20% extra capacity for safety.
