What Is a Crushed Stone Calculator?

A crushed stone calculator estimates how much crushed stone or gravel you need for driveways, patios, drainage beds, and base layers. Enter the area dimensions, fill depth, and optional waste factor to get volume in cubic yards and cubic feet, plus estimated weight in US tons. You can also enter a price per cubic yard for a quick cost estimate.

Crushed Stone Volume Formulas

Rectangle:

$$ S = \frac{L \times W \times D}{27} $$

Circle or ellipse:

$$ S = \frac{\pi \times (L/2) \times (W/2) \times D}{27} $$

Dimensions $L$, $W$, and $D$ are in feet. The divisor 27 converts cubic feet to cubic yards. Add a waste factor (typically 10%) for spillage and uneven ground. Multiply cubic yards by about 1.5 to estimate weight in US tons.
